I work together with a group of librarians to build the best resource for books in order. My name is Graeme, and I run "BSIO" as I call it. Elementary School, Northborough, Mass.Hi everyone and welcome to. Reviewer’s Name, Library (or school), City and State: Leigh King, Lincoln St. Should we (librarians/readers) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes – but do so before your young patrons find it in the library or you won’t get your hands on it again! Who should buy this book? Public, elementary and middle school libraries To whom would you recommend this book? Upper elementary and middle school readers who enjoy Gibbs’ Spy School books, or other series such as Alex Rider, Theodore Boone, even Artemis Fowl. I wish Gibbs had included some background information on Einstein and about whether there is any truth to this underlying premise of Charlie Thorne. The CIA agents Dante Garcia (with whom Charlie has a connection prior to the start of the book) and Milana Moon are great characters who no doubt will reappear in future volumes.Īnything you didn’t like about it? The book’s prologue features Einstein on his deathbed in 1955, trying to tell a doctor about the location of his last equation. Charlie Thorne is like a juvenile Lisbeth Salander, with a vast knowledge on a variety of topics, athletic ability, a devious and untrusting mindset, and sarcastic attitude, as well as a vulnerable soft side when it comes to the people who are helping her. This was a really fun, thrill-a-minute read. at the Mount Wilson Observatory in California, and definitely leaves the door wide open for the next installment in the sequel. The book reaches its exciting climax back in the U.S. What follows is a fast-paced adventure that finds Charlie trying to escape when the CIA’s plane stops to refuel in Greenland, then arriving in Israel to search the Einstein archives there, and subsequently fighting not only the Furies but Israeli intelligence agency Mossad. The Furies, a group of Eastern European criminals, are also looking for it.

And… she’s 12 years old! While skiing a dangerous, off-limits slope in Snowmass, Colorado, Charlie is confronted by two CIA operatives who desperately need her help to find an equation purportedly left behind by Albert Einstein, an equation that can be either the greatest weapon on earth or the greatest peacemaker, depending on who has possession of it. She’s also a cyber-criminal, an expert snow skier and boarder, and a college student. What did you like about the book? Charlie Thorne is a genius. Rating: 1-5 (5 is an excellent or a Starred review) 4.5 Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation – Stuart Gibbs, Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, 2019.
